Kevin and Tammy Goforth, a Regina couple convicted of killing a four-year-old girl and harming her two-year-old sister, are scheduled to appeal their conviction this morning.
They will appear in Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal at 10 a.m.
Tammy Goforth was found guilty of second-degree murder and unlawfully causing bodily harm. She was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 17 years.
Her husband, Kevin Goforth, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison.
In the trial for the couple, court heard the girls weren’t given enough food, were kept in poor conditions and were sometimes restrained while they were in the couple’s care.
The four-year-old girl was taken to Regina General Hospital in a malnourished and dehydrated state in July of 2012. She later died of a brain injury after suffering cardiac arrest.
